Indonesian-Style Grilled Dim Sum Debuts in Betong, Yala
Thailand’s first Indonesian-style grilled dim sum shop, 'DimBakar,' has opened in Betong, Yala, introducing a unique street food experience to the region.
A new culinary experience has arrived in Betong, Yala, with the opening of 'DimBakar,' the first establishment in Thailand to serve Indonesian-style grilled dim sum. According to Khaosod Online, the shop introduces a concept known in Indonesia as 'Siomay Bakar' or 'Dimsum Bakar,' which originated in the food-centric city of Bandung.
Unlike traditional steamed dim sum, this version features a unique preparation method. The owner, Mr. As-Awee, explained that the dish is crafted using fresh fish, resulting in a firm yet tender texture. The dim sum is then grilled over an open flame, a technique that distinguishes it from the steamed varieties commonly found in Thailand. Mr. As-Awee noted that he spent significant time refining the recipe to ensure it maintains its authentic Indonesian roots while appealing to the local Thai palate.
For travelers and residents in the southern border region, this opening represents a rare opportunity to sample a popular international street food trend without leaving the country. As the shop is currently the only one of its kind in Thailand, it offers a distinct addition to the local food scene. While the shop has officially launched, potential visitors may wish to confirm operating hours and specific menu availability, as the establishment is still establishing its presence in the Betong community.
