Understanding Buy vs. Sell Rates

You have foreign currency (EUR, USD...) and want Bahts (THB)

The money changer BUYS your foreign currency. The calculation uses the provider's "BUY" rate.

You have Bahts (THB) and want foreign currency (EUR, USD...)

The money changer SELLS foreign currency to you. The calculation uses the provider's "SELL" rate.

Frequently Asked Questions on Thailand Exchange

Google and XE display global wholesale interbank mid-market rates. Physical currency booths apply a cash spread to cover physical cash handling and local logistics costs.
Larger notes (50€, 100€, $100) are much more cost-effective to process and export for banks than small denominations ($1, $5), resulting in better counter rates.
At Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, main arrival hall booths offer poor rates. Go down to Basement Level B (Airport Rail Link) where SuperRich and Value Plus branches offer the same top city rates.
