Move with context

A practical guide to transport in Thailand.

Choose transport by distance, location, operating conditions and safety—not by a single universal ranking.

Route orientation

Compare practical ways to travel

Select two SawaLife destinations. The result identifies relevant transport families and authoritative booking/checking channels. Live inventory and fares require a contracted provider and are therefore never invented.

Understand each transport mode

BTS, MRT and urban rail

Use the current operator map and fare calculator. Bangkok systems have separate operators and ticketing rules, so verify interchange and last-train information for the exact route.

Check official source

Urban and intercity buses

Route numbers, stops and fares vary by operator. Use the responsible authority or terminal and confirm the final departure before relying on an itinerary.

Check official source

State Railway trains

SRT serves long-distance and regional routes. Classes, berth types and journey times differ; use SRT D-Ticket or a station and keep the issued ticket.

Check official source

Airports and airport transfers

Check the airport’s own transport page for rail, official taxi, bus and transfer locations. Allow time for terminal and airport changes in Bangkok.

Check official source

Boats and ferries

Schedules are weather- and operator-dependent. Confirm pier, check-in time, luggage rules and any island transfer before departure.

Check official source

Metered taxi and ride-hailing

Use official taxi queues or the identified driver and vehicle in the app. Confirm destination and toll handling; never enter a vehicle whose identity does not match.

Check official source

Tuk-tuk

Agree the total fare and destination before departure. Tuk-tuks suit short trips but do not provide the pricing certainty or protection of a metered or app-recorded ride.

Check official source

Motorbike and scooter

Ride only with the correct licence, insurance and helmet. Check exclusions carefully: rental availability is not proof that the rider is legally licensed or insured.

Booking and ride platforms

SRT D-Ticket is the official rail channel. Grab and 12Go are private intermediaries: compare the operator’s own rules, price and cancellation terms before paying.

Timetables, fares, routes and construction dates change. Use the linked authority or operator on the day of travel. SawaLife does not guarantee a connection and does not sell transport on this page.
