Chiang Mai Chefs Connect with Local Farmers in 'Chef to Farm' Initiative
Over 50 Chiang Mai chefs visited local farms to strengthen ties with producers and promote organic, safe food practices.
On August 15, 2026, Khaosod Online reported that more than 50 chefs and food professionals from over 17 hotels and restaurants in Chiang Mai participated in the 'Chef to Farm' event. Held at the Hug Rong Khum vegetable garden in San Pa Tong District, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between culinary professionals and local farmers.
Supported by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), the project allows chefs to experience the food production process firsthand. Participants engaged in activities such as planting, harvesting local vegetables, beekeeping, and livestock management. The goal is to foster a deeper understanding of seasonal production and ingredient quality, encouraging the integration of organic, locally sourced produce into menus at hotels and restaurants.
For residents and travelers, this initiative highlights a growing movement toward food security and sustainable dining in Northern Thailand. By building direct relationships with farmers, chefs are better positioned to offer high-quality, safe, and locally grown ingredients to their patrons. While the event marks a significant step in creating a collaborative network between the hospitality sector and agriculture, the long-term impact on local supply chains and the specific menus that will feature these ingredients remain to be seen as the project continues to develop.
