Thailand Launches 'Suphannahong' Certification for Safe Raw Egg Consumption
The Department of Livestock Development has introduced the 'Suphannahong' certification mark to guarantee Salmonella-free eggs that are safe to eat raw.
On September 18, 2026, the Thai Department of Livestock Development (DLD) officially launched the 'Suphannahong' certification mark at an event in Bangkok. According to Khaosod Online, this initiative aims to elevate the safety standards of Thai chicken eggs by ensuring they are free from Salmonella, making them safe for raw consumption.
For residents and travelers in Thailand, this certification is significant as it introduces a higher level of food safety oversight. The program utilizes egg-labeling technology, which prints a code directly onto each egg. This system allows for full traceability back to the specific farm of origin, providing consumers with greater transparency regarding the quality and handling of the product.
Dr. Somchuan Ratanamungklanon, Director-General of the DLD, stated that the project is part of a broader effort to boost confidence in Thai agricultural products and enhance their international competitiveness. While the certification mark is designed to guarantee cleanliness and safety, consumers should look for the 'Suphannahong' label on packaging to identify eggs that meet these specific DLD standards. It remains to be seen how quickly this labeling system will be adopted across all major retail outlets and whether it will become the standard for all egg producers in the country.
