OCPB Mediates Dispute Over Defective New EV

The Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) has successfully mediated a case involving a brand-new electric vehicle that suffered a wheel failure after only two days of use.

According to a report by Thai Post on September 17, 2026, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Supamas Isarabhakdi announced that the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) has resolved a consumer dispute regarding a newly purchased electric vehicle (EV). The owner reported that the vehicle's alloy wheel cracked after just two days of operation.

Following the intervention of the OCPB, three involved companies agreed to a settlement. The resolution requires the replacement of the damaged alloy wheel, the tire, and the brake caliper assembly.

For residents and travelers in Thailand, this case highlights the active role of the OCPB in addressing consumer grievances related to automotive quality. While this specific incident was resolved through mediation, it serves as a reminder for those purchasing new vehicles to be aware of consumer protection channels should they encounter significant mechanical defects shortly after acquisition.

It remains to be confirmed whether this defect was an isolated manufacturing issue or part of a broader quality control concern affecting this specific vehicle model. Consumers are encouraged to document any mechanical failures immediately and contact the OCPB if they are unable to reach a satisfactory resolution directly with the manufacturer or dealership.
