Cosmetic Shop in Chiang Mai Mall Refunds Customer Following Dispute
A cosmetic shop in a Chiang Mai shopping mall has refunded 85,800 THB to a customer after authorities investigated claims of high-pressure sales tactics.
On September 2, 2026, officials from the Chiang Mai Consumer Protection Board and the Provincial Public Health Office inspected a cosmetic shop located within a local shopping mall following a consumer dispute. The incident involved a customer who alleged being pressured into a significant credit card transaction.
According to Khaosod Online, the shop agreed to refund the full amount of 85,800 THB to the customer’s father. Both parties have since agreed to drop their respective legal complaints. The shop management denied using coercive sales tactics or performing unauthorized procedures, clarifying that they operate as a cosmetic retail store rather than a medical clinic.
Provincial health authorities confirmed that the establishment does not qualify as a medical facility or beauty clinic, and therefore does not require the associated operating licenses. Inspections of the products sold revealed that five out of six items listed on the receipt were properly labeled and registered in accordance with Thai regulations. The shop also clarified that it offers complimentary facial massages to customers who purchase products.
For residents and travelers, this case highlights the importance of verifying the nature of service providers in malls. While the dispute has been resolved, the shopping mall management stated they were not involved in the transaction. Consumers are encouraged to check product labels and confirm the business registration status if they have concerns about services offered.
