According to a report by Khaosod Online, a woman identified by the surname Yang, who worked as a financial consultant in Hangzhou, China, suffered from rhabdomyolysis—a serious condition involving muscle tissue breakdown—following a workplace disciplinary action. On July 28, after failing to meet daily performance quotas, Yang was reportedly given the choice by her team leader, surnamed Zhang, to either pay a fine or perform 100 squats for each missed target.
Yang opted for the physical punishment, resulting in 200 squats. Shortly thereafter, she experienced severe physical distress, becoming unable to walk or stand, which necessitated hospitalization.
