Consumer Protection Board Intervenes in EV Wheel Failure Case

Minister Supamas Isarabhakdi has overseen a successful mediation between an EV owner and a manufacturer after a new vehicle's wheel rim fractured within two days of purchase.

On September 17, 2026, Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) successfully mediated a dispute involving a newly purchased electric vehicle (EV). The owner reported that the front-left wheel rim fractured while driving just two days after taking delivery, causing a tire puncture.

Following the complaint, the OCPB facilitated negotiations between the consumer and the relevant manufacturer, distributor, and dealer. The parties reached an agreement in which the company committed to replacing all necessary parts and conducting a full vehicle inspection at no cost to the owner. The consumer has accepted this resolution and withdrawn the complaint.

For residents and travelers in Thailand, this case highlights the active role of the OCPB in addressing product safety concerns. While this specific incident was resolved, it serves as a reminder for new vehicle owners to document any mechanical issues immediately and utilize government consumer protection channels if disputes arise. It remains to be confirmed whether this incident was an isolated manufacturing defect or part of a broader quality control issue, as the government has instructed the OCPB to monitor the implementation of the repair agreement closely.
