Thai Authorities Meet Producers to Stabilize Meat and Egg Prices

The Department of Internal Trade is coordinating with major livestock associations to manage supply and prevent rising costs for pork, chicken, and eggs.

On August 20, 2026, the Thai Department of Internal Trade (DIT) held discussions with major livestock associations and large-scale producers, including CPF, Betagro, and Thai Foods, to address the rising cost of living. The meeting followed an increase in consumer demand that pushed farm-gate pork prices to 74 baht per kilogram.

According to Jirawut Suwannajat, Deputy Director-General of the DIT, the goal is to balance production costs with consumer affordability. Officials expect pork prices to remain stable until mid-September. Regarding poultry, production is showing signs of recovery and is expected to return to normal levels. For eggs, the department plans to increase supply by extending the productive lifespan of laying hens to ensure sufficient availability.

For residents and travelers in Thailand, these discussions are significant as they aim to prevent sudden spikes in food prices at markets and retail outlets. While the government is actively monitoring the situation to mitigate inflationary pressure on household expenses, the long-term stability of these prices remains subject to market conditions and the effectiveness of the supply management strategies discussed. Consumers should continue to monitor local market prices as the situation evolves through mid-September.
