Thai Ministry Clarifies Residential Solar Program Policies

Thai Post One source

The Ministry of Interior has addressed concerns regarding the residential solar program, confirming no deposits are required and urging contractors to manage workloads responsibly.

Deputy Minister of Interior Phonphir Suwannachai has clarified key operational details of the government's residential solar program during a parliamentary session. Addressing public concerns, the Ministry confirmed that no deposit fees are required from households participating in the initiative. The existing requirement for a 50,000-baht bank guarantee and insurance is intended solely to protect consumers, rather than act as a financial barrier. With approximately 65,000 households already registered, the government is prioritizing the efficiency of the rollout. The Ministry has issued a stern warning to small-scale installation contractors, advising them not to accept more work than they can realistically manage to avoid compromising the rights of participants. Furthermore, authorities are working to expedite the electrical grid connection process, aiming to complete installations within seven days of approval. For residents and property owners, this update provides clarity on financial expectations and service standards. While the government is actively monitoring the program to ensure consumer protection, the ability of private contractors to meet the seven-day connection target remains a point of interest for those currently awaiting installation. Further updates regarding contractor performance and potential delays will be monitored as the program progresses.
