Thai Shrimp Industry Faces Production Stagnation Due to Disease Outbreaks
Thailand's shrimp production is expected to remain stagnant at 250,000 tons this year as disease outbreaks hinder growth targets.
According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Thai Aquaculture Federation has identified persistent disease outbreaks as the primary factor preventing the growth of the domestic shrimp industry. The federation noted that infections involving EHP, WSSV, and EMS are increasingly occurring simultaneously, creating significant challenges for farmers.
As a result of these health issues, total shrimp production for the year is projected to remain at approximately 250,000 tons, falling short of the industry's original expansion goals. The federation also clarified that the presence of blackchin tilapia in the ecosystem has not been a contributing factor to the current decline in shrimp output.
