Demining Officer Seriously Injured in Sa Kaeo Landmine Incident

On July 29, 2026, a Sergeant First Class from the 30th Cavalry Battalion was critically injured while conducting a technical survey in Sa Kaeo province. According to reports from the Burapha Force, the incident occurred at approximately 11:00 AM near Ban Nong Chan in the Khok Sung district. The officer stepped on a PMN-type landmine while working within a Confirmed Hazardous Area (CHA 27-01/01), resulting in the loss of his left leg. He was immediately transported to Aranyaprathet Hospital for emergency treatment.

The Humanitarian Mine Action Unit 1 (HMAU 1) has been clearing this specific 80,800-square-meter zone, which lies outside of active combat control areas. Prior to the accident, teams had successfully cleared 62,000 square meters, leaving approximately 18,800 square meters—or 23.27% of the site—still requiring inspection.
