Consumer Protection Board Resolves Dispute Over Defective EV
Thailand’s Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) has successfully mediated a case involving a brand-new electric vehicle that suffered a wheel rim failure after only two days of use.
According to the Thailand Government Public Relations Department, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Supamas Isarabhakdi intervened in a consumer dispute involving a newly purchased electric vehicle (EV). The owner reported that the vehicle’s wheel rim fractured just two days after acquisition.
Following mediation by the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), the automotive company involved has agreed to replace all necessary parts free of charge. This resolution highlights the government's active role in addressing quality control concerns within the rapidly growing EV market in Thailand.
For residents and expatriates, this case serves as a reminder of the available consumer protection mechanisms when dealing with high-value purchases. While the government has successfully facilitated this specific repair, it remains to be confirmed whether this was an isolated manufacturing defect or part of a broader quality issue affecting this specific vehicle model. Consumers are encouraged to document any mechanical failures immediately and contact the OCPB if they encounter difficulties in obtaining warranty support from manufacturers. The government continues to monitor the standards of EV providers to ensure consumer safety and market confidence.
