Thailand Reports Over 23,000 Online Complaints in First Eight Months of 2026

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society reports a decline in total online complaints, though illegal websites remain the primary source of issues.

According to data released by the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) under the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, Thailand recorded 23,525 online complaints during the first eight months of 2026. This figure represents a 14.06% decrease, or 3,850 fewer cases, compared to the same period in 2025.

Khaosod Online reports that illegal websites and online shopping fraud currently top the list of grievances. Additionally, complaints regarding digital platform services rose significantly, reaching 4,034 cases—a 42.95% increase from the previous year. Demographic data indicates that individuals in the Gen Y and Gen X age groups are the most frequent victims, accounting for 72.23% of all reported incidents.

For residents and travelers, these statistics highlight the ongoing risks associated with digital transactions and unauthorized websites in Thailand. While the overall volume of complaints has trended downward, the rise in platform-related issues suggests that users should remain vigilant when engaging with digital services.

It remains to be confirmed how the government plans to specifically address the surge in digital platform complaints or what specific enforcement actions will be taken against the identified illegal websites. Users are encouraged to utilize the 1212 ETDA online assistance center if they encounter issues.
