State Railway of Thailand Inspects Southern Logistics Hub Potential
The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is evaluating sites in Hat Yai and Bang Klam to develop a logistics hub aimed at supporting the Southern double-track railway and cross-border trade with Malaysia.
On August 31, 2026, Anan Phonimdaeng, Governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), visited Hat Yai Junction in Songkhla province to assess operational readiness and address local infrastructure needs. The visit focused on the strategic importance of Hat Yai as a primary transit point for passengers and freight in Southern Thailand.
Key to the inspection was the potential development of a Container Yard (CY) at Bang Klam station. This project is intended to bolster the 'Shift to Rail' policy, which seeks to move freight transport from road to rail. By enhancing capacity at this location, the SRT aims to improve logistics connectivity between Southern Thailand and the Padang Besar border crossing in Malaysia.
For residents and travelers, this initiative signals a long-term effort to modernize regional rail infrastructure, potentially leading to more efficient freight movement and improved passenger services. The Governor emphasized the need for higher safety and service standards at Hat Yai Junction.
