ONESQA Launches 'Smart Local Literacy' Model to Address Educational Gaps
The Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment (ONESQA) is implementing a new initiative to improve literacy among ethnic and remote-area students in Thailand.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, the Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment (ONESQA) has introduced the 'Smart Local Literacy' (SLC) model. This initiative aims to reduce educational inequality and prevent students from dropping out of the school system by focusing on foundational literacy skills.
Professor Dr. Ongart Naiyapat, Director of ONESQA, stated that illiteracy remains a significant barrier for students in remote areas, particularly within ethnic minority communities. The SLC model seeks to address this by leveraging partnerships with local institutions, such as Rajabhat Universities, which possess deep knowledge of regional social contexts. By utilizing external education assessment results, ONESQA intends to create community-based learning innovations that help students build intellectual capital.
For residents and those interested in Thailand’s social development, this initiative highlights a strategic shift toward localized educational support. While the program is currently being piloted to improve literacy rates, the long-term impact on national school quality and the specific timeline for nationwide implementation remain to be confirmed.
