Thai Government Approves Additional 220,000-Ton Rice Sale to China
The Thai Cabinet has authorized an increase in government-to-government rice exports to China, extending delivery timelines through 2026.
According to a report from Khaosod Online Thailand, the Thai government has officially approved an expansion of its government-to-government (G to G) rice trade agreement with China. Under the updated framework, Thailand will supply an additional 220,000 tons of rice to China, following a request from the Chinese government and its state-owned enterprise, COFCO Corporation.
This decision brings the total volume of rice requested by China to 500,000 tons, which includes 280,000 tons remaining from previous contracts and the newly approved 220,000 tons. The Cabinet has tasked the Ministry of Commerce with drafting the necessary contract amendments, incorporating guidance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council.
