Thai Cabinet Approves 7.2 Billion Baht Khlong Wang Tanot Reservoir Project

On August 5, 2026, the Thai Cabinet officially approved a budget of 7.2 billion baht for the construction of the Khlong Wang Tanot reservoir in Chanthaburi province. According to Prachachat Business, the project is designed to provide water security for the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and support approximately 87,000 rai of agricultural land. Government projections estimate an Economic Internal Rate of Return (EIRR) of 13.18% for the development.

While the government emphasizes the economic benefits, the Seub Nakhasathien Foundation has raised significant concerns regarding the environmental impact. The foundation points out that the official reports have yet to address the loss of wildlife habitats within the Khao Sip Ha Chan National Park that will be submerged by the reservoir.
