Ao Nang Elephant Sanctuary

Partner overview
Ao Nang Elephant Sanctuary is an ethical elephant sanctuary set in a green valley of Ao Nang, Krabi, about ten minutes from Ao Nang Beach (272 Moo 6, Ao Nang, Mueang Krabi). Active in Krabi since 2018, it is dedicated to caring for and rehoming elephants in a natural, safe and respectful setting, free from exploitation. There is no elephant riding: guests take part in the animals’ everyday life instead of simply watching.
The half-day visit, offered as a morning or an afternoon session, is led by dedicated mahouts and local guides. Visitors help prepare the elephants’ food, feed them, walk with them and share a mud bath and a river bath with them, learning about their behaviour and daily rhythm along the way. The sanctuary currently looks after four elephants — Mae Yai, Sri Prai, Asia and Sa-Wit-Tree — each with a profile and a microchip number published on its website.
According to the sanctuary, it is accredited by Thailand’s Department of Livestock Development and holds the Asian Captive Elephant Standards (ACES) Bronze Level certification with a score of 87%, and operates under TAT licence 34/03016. The experience includes hotel transfers (Krabi Town, Ao Nang, Klong Muang, Tubkaek, Ao Nam Mao and the pier for Railay), fruit, coffee, tea and drinking water, Wi-Fi, a locker under camera surveillance, professional photos sent by e-mail and travel accident insurance. Guests are recommended to be at least 3 years old and to wear light clothing and swimwear. The sanctuary is open from 09:00 to 17:00 and bookings are made through its website or by e-mail.
