Bangkok Orders 50 Condominiums to Clear Obstructions for Fire Safety
Bangkok authorities have mandated that 50 high-rise buildings remove landscaping and structures that block fire truck access.
On August 5, 2026, Bangkok Deputy Governor Wisanu Subsompon announced that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has ordered 50 high-rise condominiums to clear areas surrounding their buildings. This directive follows concerns raised by the Thailand Consumers Council regarding potential violations of building control laws, specifically regarding the space required for emergency fire vehicle access.
According to the BMA, inspections revealed that many of these properties had installed gardens, planted trees, or constructed unauthorized extensions that could impede emergency services. The BMA has since conducted follow-up inspections on all 50 identified sites. Current progress reports indicate that 12 buildings have already completed the necessary modifications, 34 are in the process of making adjustments, and four remain under construction.
