SEC Submits Additional Evidence in Bitkub Case Regarding Alleged Concealment of 1.7 Billion Baht Hack

The Thai SEC has provided further evidence to the Economic Crime Suppression Division regarding allegations that Bitkub Online concealed a 2021 digital asset hack.

On August 5, 2026, officials from Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) met with investigators from the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD) to submit additional evidence and provide testimony regarding a legal case against Bitkub Online Co., Ltd. and its former directors.

The case centers on allegations that the digital asset exchange provided false reports to conceal a security breach that occurred in May 2021. According to the SEC’s investigation, the incident involved the theft of 16 types of digital assets belonging to customers, with an estimated total value of 1.7 billion baht. The SEC has accused the company of violating the Emergency Decree on Digital Asset Businesses B.E. 2561.

For residents and expatriates in Thailand, this development highlights ongoing regulatory scrutiny within the local cryptocurrency sector. While the case is currently under investigation by the ECD, it serves as a reminder of the importance of platform security and regulatory compliance for those managing digital assets in the country. It remains to be confirmed how the legal proceedings will conclude and whether the findings will result in specific penalties for the company or its former leadership. As this is an active legal matter, further updates from the authorities are expected as the investigation progresses.
