According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on August 5, 2026, sugarcane farmers in Nakhon Ratchasima are struggling with a severe financial crisis during the 2025/26 production season. Farmers report that the cost of labor, fuel, and fertilizer has surged, while the Cabinet has set the initial sugarcane price at 890 baht per ton (at 10 CCS). Farmers argue this price is insufficient to cover their actual operational expenses.
Furthermore, there is ongoing frustration regarding the 'Fresh Sugarcane Harvesting to Reduce PM 2.5' initiative. Although the government approved a budget of 477.05 million baht to support farmers who harvested fresh sugarcane during the 2024/25 season, these payments have yet to be distributed.
