Analysis Raises Questions Following Fatal Tiger Attack at Huai Kha Khaeng
The Thailand Tiger Project DNP has analyzed the recent fatal tiger attack on a wildlife sanctuary official, noting unusual physical evidence at the scene.
On August 5, 2026, Khaosod Online reported on a fatal incident involving a tiger attack at the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary. The victim, Sakarin Wichajarn, a government official, was reportedly taken by a tiger while sleeping in a hammock at an open-air pavilion known as Krua Makham.
The Thailand Tiger Project DNP, a research group under the Department of National Parks, has since provided an analysis of the scene. According to their observations, the tiger carried the victim over a low railing rather than using the designated entrance. Notably, the group highlighted the absence of blood droplets or signs of a struggle at the sleeping area. A blood-stained mosquito net was discovered approximately 15 meters away, yet no blood trail was found between the pavilion and that location.
For residents and visitors, this incident underscores the inherent risks of staying in areas where tiger activity is documented. The sanctuary is a known habitat, and the presence of tiger tracks near the pavilion had been previously noted. While the analysis provides insight into the tiger's behavior, the specific circumstances regarding the lack of physical evidence at the immediate scene remain a subject of ongoing discussion among experts. Authorities have not yet provided a final forensic conclusion regarding the sequence of events.
