According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on August 5, 2026, the Thai Cabinet has approved a draft royal decree allowing the Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) to operate electric rail services in Songkhla province. This legislative step is a prerequisite for the development of the proposed Hat Yai monorail project.
The planned infrastructure spans 12.54 kilometers and includes 12 stations, along with a dedicated depot and maintenance center. This initiative aims to modernize public transportation in the southern region, potentially easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity for both residents and visitors in the major commercial hub of Hat Yai.
