A 72-year-old woman in Chachoengsao province lost her life after accidentally falling into a water well in front of her home.
On August 5, 2026, local authorities in Chachoengsao province, Thailand, responded to a tragic incident in Bang Phai sub-district. According to a report by Khaosod Online, a 72-year-old woman was discovered deceased in a water well located in front of her residence. Police Lieutenant Colonel Sittisak Buathara of the Mueang Chachoengsao Police Station stated that the victim was found face-down in the water, which was covered by duckweed. A single sandal and a lit incense stick were found at the edge of the well.
The victim’s 69-year-old husband reported that he last saw his wife around 11:00 p.m. the previous night. Assuming she had gone to stay with her sister nearby—a common occurrence—he did not realize she was missing until he checked the sister's home the following morning.
For residents and travelers, this incident serves as a somber reminder of the potential hazards posed by open water sources or wells in rural residential areas, particularly during nighttime hours. While the preliminary investigation suggests an accidental fall, the official cause of death remains subject to the findings of the forensic examination conducted by the Phutthasothon Hospital medical team.
