Thai Authorities Investigate Data Breach Involving Government Leaders
The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) has launched an inquiry into a leak of personal data belonging to government leaders, tracing the source to two state departments.
On August 4, 2026, representatives from the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society filed a formal complaint with the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) following the unauthorized release of personal information belonging to key government figures on the internet. In response, the CCIB has established a dedicated task force, led by Deputy Commissioner Pol. Maj. Gen. Tinakorn Rangmat, to identify the perpetrators and hold them accountable under the law.
According to Pol. Lt. Gen. Surapol Prembut, Commissioner of the CCIB, preliminary investigations suggest that the leaked data originated from the Department of Land Transport and the Department of Provincial Administration. Authorities are now preparing to summon officials from these agencies for intensive questioning to determine how the security breach occurred.
