The Progressive Social Security team has filed a lawsuit with the Central Administrative Court to overturn the indefinite postponement of the Social Security Board election.
On August 5, 2026, the Progressive Social Security team, led by Sutharam Thammabusadee, filed a lawsuit with the Central Administrative Court seeking to revoke the official announcement postponing the Social Security Board election. The group is requesting that the court mandate the election proceed as originally scheduled for September 27, 2026, without requiring advance registration.
According to Khaosod Online, the plaintiffs argue that the Social Security Election Committee has overstepped its authority. They contend that a previous court order only suspended the requirement for advance registration, rather than authorizing a total halt to the election process. The team claims that the committee is using the court order as a pretext to delay the return of power to insured persons, noting that the previous board’s term expired in February 2026. They suggest that the current administrative vacuum, which has persisted for over five months, may be a political maneuver by factions within the Ministry of Labour to maintain influence.
For residents and those contributing to the Thai social security system, this legal battle is significant as it directly impacts the governance and management of the national fund. The election process was reportedly 70% complete before the suspension. It remains to be confirmed how the Central Administrative Court will rule on the request to reinstate the September 27 date and whether the election will proceed as originally planned.
