Armed Robbery at Gold Shop in Chiang Khong, Chiang Rai

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, an armed robbery occurred at a gold shop located within a prominent shopping mall in Chiang Khong, Chiang Rai, on the afternoon of August 4, 2026. Two suspects, wearing face masks and sunglasses to conceal their identities, entered the premises at approximately 4:00 PM.

Witnesses reported that one of the suspects fired a shot into the air to intimidate staff and security personnel. While one individual held the crowd at bay with a firearm, the second suspect climbed over the counter and seized five trays of gold jewelry. The pair subsequently fled the scene on a motorcycle. Preliminary investigations by local authorities revealed that the motorcycle used in the getaway was a rental vehicle, which was later discovered abandoned near the Mekong River.

For residents and travelers in the area, this incident highlights a significant security breach in a public space. While the suspects remain at large, authorities are currently processing the evidence, including the abandoned vehicle, to track their movements.
