Opposition Party Raises Concerns Over Ministry of Interior Budget Transparency

According to a report by Thai Post on August 4, 2026, members of the People's Party (PChN) serving on the subcommittee for durable goods and equipment have raised alarms regarding the budget allocation process. During recent deliberations, the subcommittee scrutinized various proposals, noting that several ministries submitted requests seemingly unrelated to their core mandates. Examples cited include the Ministry of Energy proposing the purchase of banana dryers, and the Agricultural Land Reform Office (ALRO) requesting equipment for making meatballs and sausages, as well as lemongrass cutters.

The situation escalated during a meeting involving the Ministry of Interior. PChN representatives alleged that the Ministry attempted to withhold information and expedite the approval process. The report claims that a Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior reacted aggressively, pointing fingers and slamming the table in response to the subcommittee’s request for additional documentation. The opposition members have further questioned whether government-aligned members of the subcommittee are rushing the review process to bypass proper oversight.
