Thai Meteorological Department Issues Heavy Rain and Strong Wind Warning

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has released its second announcement regarding severe weather conditions expected across Thailand between August 6 and August 9, 2026. According to the report from Khaosod Online, a monsoon trough is moving across the upper northern and northeastern regions, while a strengthening southwest monsoon is impacting the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

Residents and travelers in 31 provinces should prepare for heavy to very heavy rainfall. The northern, northeastern, and eastern regions are expected to see the most significant increases in precipitation. Central Thailand, including Bangkok and its surrounding areas, as well as the southern region, will also experience heavy rain in some locations. The TMD warns that these conditions may lead to flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in low-lying areas and regions near mountain slopes.

Additionally, maritime conditions are expected to be hazardous. The upper Andaman Sea will face strong winds, with wave heights reaching between 2 and 4 meters, and potentially exceeding 3 meters in areas experiencing thunderstorms. The upper Gulf of Thailand is also expected to see elevated wave activity. Travelers planning coastal trips or maritime activities during this period are advised to monitor local weather updates closely. While the TMD has identified the affected regions, specific localized impacts remain subject to change as the weather system develops.
