Thailand Meteorological Department Issues Heavy Rain and High Wave Warning

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has released its first official warning (No. 143/2569) regarding severe weather conditions expected across Thailand between August 6 and August 9, 2026. According to Khaosod Online, the alert is driven by a monsoon trough moving across the upper northern and northeastern regions, combined with a strengthening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

Residents and travelers should prepare for increased rainfall, with heavy to very heavy downpours expected in the North, Northeast, and East. Central Thailand, including Bangkok and its surrounding provinces, as well as the South, are also expected to experience significant rainfall. The TMD has specifically cautioned the public to remain vigilant against the risks of flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in low-lying areas and regions near mountain slopes.

Maritime conditions are also expected to be hazardous. The upper Andaman Sea is forecast to see waves between 2 and 4 meters, potentially exceeding 3 meters in areas with thunderstorms. Similarly, the upper Gulf of Thailand may experience waves of 2 to 3 meters, with higher swells during storms. Travelers planning coastal activities or boat trips during this period should monitor local updates closely. While the warning covers the specified dates, the exact intensity and localized impact remain subject to ongoing meteorological monitoring.
