Yasothon Road Project Faces Delays and Penalties

On July 30, 2026, officials from the Yasothon branch of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) conducted a follow-up inspection of a road safety improvement project on Highway 23, located between Ban Yo and Ban Suan in the Kham Khuean Kaeo district. The project, valued at 44.22 million baht and managed by the Yasothon Highway District, has faced persistent delays.

Although the original contract stipulated a 180-day completion period ending on June 1, the work remains unfinished. The Yasothon Highway District previously granted a two-week extension until June 14, citing contractor claims regarding fuel shortages linked to the conflict in the Middle East. Despite this extension, current progress is reported at only 90 percent. Consequently, the contractor has already been penalized with fines totaling 3.5 million baht.

For residents and travelers, this ongoing construction may continue to impact traffic flow and safety conditions on this section of Highway 23. While the NACC is actively monitoring the situation to ensure accountability, it remains to be confirmed when the project will reach full completion and whether further penalties will be imposed if the current pace continues.
