South Korean Gang Arrested in Chiang Mai for Selling Fraudulent Supplements to Tourists

Khaosod Online Thailand One source

Chiang Mai Tourist Police have raided two locations linked to a South Korean group accused of selling overpriced, unapproved health supplements to tourists.

On November 8, 2026, Chiang Mai Tourist Police executed search warrants at two locations following reports that tourists were being coerced into purchasing health supplements at exorbitant prices. According to Khaosod Online, victims reported being taken by tour companies to buy products costing up to 40,000 baht per box, with sellers falsely claiming the items could cure diseases and posing as traditional medicine practitioners.

During the raid at Jinkwang Gemology Co., Ltd. in San Kamphaeng district, authorities discovered four types of supplements, two of which lacked Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval. Officers apprehended 61-year-old South Korean national Mr. Oh Ki Sung, who was allegedly in the process of selling these products to South Korean tour groups within a VIP room at the facility.

This incident serves as a reminder for travelers to exercise caution when participating in shopping excursions organized by tour operators, particularly when high-priced health products are involved. The lack of official certification for these items poses potential health risks. Authorities have seized the products for further investigation. It remains to be confirmed how many tourists were affected by this scheme and whether other tour companies are involved in similar practices. Travelers are advised to verify the legitimacy of health products through official channels.
