Thailand Meteorological Department Issues Heavy Rain Warning for 57 Provinces

On July 29, 2026, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a significant weather warning affecting 57 provinces across the country. According to Khaosod Online, the alert is driven by a monsoon trough passing through the upper North and Northeast regions, combined with a relatively strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

Residents and travelers should be aware that the Northeast, East, and South regions are expected to experience very heavy rainfall, while the North, Central region, and Bangkok metropolitan area face heavy downpours. The TMD has explicitly warned of the risks of flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in low-lying areas and regions near hillsides or natural waterways.

Marine conditions are also affected. The upper Andaman Sea is experiencing strong winds with waves reaching 2–3 meters, potentially exceeding 3 meters during thunderstorms. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand are seeing waves of approximately 2 meters, rising higher in stormy conditions. Consequently, the TMD has advised mariners to exercise extreme caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are specifically advised to remain ashore during this period.
