Khaosod Online Thailand One source

Police have apprehended a 47-year-old man accused of stealing valuables from graduation ceremony attendees while disguised as a photographer.

According to a report by Khaosod Online, authorities from the Thung Song Hong Police Station have arrested 47-year-old Ratthapong Khokhat on charges of theft. The suspect was apprehended on November 6, 2026, following an incident at the Chulabhorn Royal Academy of Science. The suspect allegedly disguised himself as a professional photographer to blend into graduation crowds, targeting unattended bags while owners were distracted. Surveillance footage shared on social media showed the man scouting seating areas before stealing items and concealing them in a bag he carried. The investigation was initiated after a victim filed a formal complaint on November 5, 2026, regarding a theft at the academy's walkway. Police recovered evidence, including a stolen wallet, during the arrest. The suspect reportedly has a history of similar offenses and had been released from prison shortly before this incident. For residents and visitors attending large public events or ceremonies, this case serves as a reminder to remain vigilant regarding personal belongings, as criminals may exploit crowded environments by posing as service staff or event participants. While the suspect is in custody, authorities continue to process the case to determine if there are additional victims or outstanding charges related to his recent activities.
