Thai Cyber Police Shift to Proactive Strategy Against Online Crime
The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) has announced a strategic shift from reactive investigations to proactive operations to dismantle online criminal networks.
On October 17, 2026, during the annual 'Police Day' ceremony, Commissioner of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB), Police Lieutenant General Thinnakorn Rangmat, outlined a new operational roadmap for the agency. According to Khaosod Online, the CCIB is moving away from its traditional model of waiting for reports and conducting individual case investigations. Instead, the agency is adopting a proactive approach aimed at disrupting the entire infrastructure of call center gangs and online criminal syndicates.
This strategic pivot aligns with broader national directives from the Royal Thai Police, which prioritize the suppression of four key areas: illegal nominees, online threats, narcotics, and corruption. The Commissioner emphasized that the ultimate goal of this transformation is to enhance public safety and make it significantly more difficult for cybercriminal organizations to operate within Thailand.
For residents and travelers, this shift suggests a potential increase in law enforcement activity targeting digital fraud and online scams. While the intent is to reduce financial losses and improve security, the practical implementation of these proactive measures remains to be seen. The agency also used the occasion to honor fallen officers and provide financial support to 75 families affected by recent flooding. Further details regarding specific operational tactics or changes in reporting procedures for victims of cybercrime have not yet been disclosed.
