MRTA Updates Regional Rail Development Plans Across Thailand

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has revised its investment timeline for regional rail projects in five provinces, prioritizing development in Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Nakhon Ratchasima.

According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) is currently reviewing its investment strategies and study results for regional rail infrastructure. MRTA Governor Kajphajon Udomthamphakdi announced that the agency has adjusted the development timeline for five key provinces.

Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) are currently identified as the primary candidates for the initial phase of these projects. Meanwhile, the proposed rail development in Phitsanulok remains contingent upon the progress and clarity of the high-speed rail network plans. Additionally, the MRTA is moving forward with full-scale preparations for the project in Songkhla.

For residents and travelers, these updates signal a potential shift in regional connectivity and long-term urban mobility. While these provinces are being prioritized, the specific implementation dates and final investment models are still under review. Stakeholders should note that these plans are subject to further adjustments as the MRTA finalizes its feasibility studies and coordinates with broader national infrastructure goals. Further details regarding construction timelines and specific routes are expected to be confirmed as the agency progresses with its revised roadmap.
