Pollution Control Department Investigates Fish Die-off in Prachin Buri
Authorities are investigating the mass death of fish in cages across three sub-districts in Prachin Buri province, with laboratory results expected by October 19.
The Pollution Control Department (PCD) of Thailand is currently investigating a significant incident involving the death of fish kept in cages within the Si Maha Phot district of Prachin Buri province. According to reports from Khaosod Online, the issue affects three sub-districts: Tha Tum, Ban Tham, and Hat Nang Kaeo.
Dr. Surin Worakitthamrong, Director-General of the PCD, stated that the Regional Environment and Pollution Control Office 7, in collaboration with local provincial natural resources and environmental authorities, has been deployed to the area to assess the situation. On October 12, 2026, officials conducted field water quality tests and collected samples from four distinct locations for laboratory analysis. These samples are being evaluated for critical parameters to determine the underlying cause of the mortality.
For residents and visitors in the area, this investigation is a precautionary measure to identify potential environmental hazards in the local water supply. While the immediate impact is focused on the aquaculture sector, the findings will clarify whether the water quality poses broader risks. The public is advised to await the official laboratory results, which are expected to be released on October 19, 2026. Until then, the exact cause of the fish die-off remains unconfirmed, and authorities continue to coordinate efforts to mitigate further environmental damage.
