Gold Ornament Stolen from Phra Phuttha Sihing Statue on Koh Larn

Authorities are investigating the theft of a gold-alloy spire from a revered Buddha statue at Wat Mai Samran on Koh Larn.

On October 8, 2026, Khaosod Online reported that a sacred spire (ket) from the Phra Phuttha Sihing statue at Wat Mai Samran on Koh Larn, Pattaya, has been stolen. The ornament, crafted from a mixture of gold, brass, silver, and copper donated by the public, weighs over three baht of gold.

The theft was discovered on October 7 at approximately 11:00 AM by the temple’s abbot, Phra Khru Sutthammaphiwut, while he was attending to visitors. Upon reviewing the timeline, temple officials determined that the spire was present on October 2 but was missing by October 6, suggesting the incident occurred between those dates.

Local police and forensic teams are currently investigating the scene. Initial findings indicate that security camera cables at the temple were cut, suggesting a deliberate act. This incident is significant for residents and visitors alike, as the statue is a site of local devotion and cultural heritage.

At this stage, the identity of the perpetrator remains unknown, and authorities are working to recover the stolen artifact. Visitors to the temple are advised that the area may be subject to ongoing police activity as the investigation continues.
