FTI Warns of Potential Economic Impact from Global Oil Price Volatility
The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has advised businesses to prepare for energy cost fluctuations driven by Middle East tensions.
The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has issued a warning regarding the high uncertainty of global oil prices, citing ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and security risks along critical shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz. FTI Chairwoman Pimjai Leeissaranukul stated that while the Thai government is managing domestic energy reserves, businesses must prepare for potential long-term cost increases.
For residents and travelers, this situation is significant because sustained high diesel prices could ripple through the entire supply chain. This includes potential impacts on the costs of raw materials, manufacturing, construction, and logistics. The FTI specifically highlighted that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and logistics providers, which often operate on thin profit margins, are the most vulnerable. These increased operational costs could eventually influence the prices of consumer goods and overall purchasing power within Thailand.
To mitigate these risks, the FTI is urging businesses to prioritize internal cost management and energy efficiency, such as adopting solar rooftop solutions. While the government maintains energy security, the volatility of global oil prices remains an external factor beyond local control. It remains to be confirmed how long these price fluctuations will persist and to what extent they will directly impact the final retail prices of goods and services for the general public.
