Thai Chamber of Commerce Urges Government to Finalize Three Key Trade Deals
The Thai Chamber of Commerce is pushing for the rapid conclusion of trade agreements with the US, EU, and UAE to potentially boost GDP growth by 2% over three years.
According to Khaosod Online, the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) has called on the government and the Ministry of Commerce to accelerate negotiations on three strategic trade agreements: the Thai-US Reciprocal Trade Agreement (ART), the Thai-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), and the Thai-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
Mr. Poj Aramwattananont, Chairman of the TCC, emphasized that these deals are at a critical stage. The TCC is supporting Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Supachai Sutumpun, who are currently in New York for the 81st UN General Assembly, in their efforts to finalize the ART. The goal is to maintain competitive tax rates for Thai exports, particularly in the agricultural, processed food, and seafood sectors, while providing clarity on rules of origin and trade facilitation for investors.
For residents and business owners in Thailand, these negotiations are significant as they aim to secure long-term economic stability and potentially increase GDP growth by 2% within three years. While the government is actively pursuing these frameworks, the specific timelines for finalization and the exact terms regarding tariff exemptions remain to be confirmed. Stakeholders are watching closely to see how these international discussions will translate into concrete policy changes for the export sector.
