Buriram Contractor Warns of Predatory Online Loan AI Harassment
A 55-year-old contractor in Buriram has reported being targeted by an aggressive online loan scheme that uses AI-driven collection tactics.
On September 17, 2026, a 55-year-old pipe-laying contractor from Buriram, identified as Mr. Boonrob, shared his experience with a predatory online lending platform to warn the public, particularly students and young people. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the victim initially borrowed 1,600 THB after encountering a loan advertisement online. Within two days, the lender demanded a repayment of 2,690 THB within a seven-day window.
Despite paying off the initial debt to close the account, the company reportedly transferred an additional 3,300 THB to his account without his consent. Seven days later, the platform demanded a repayment of 5,200 THB. Mr. Boonrob described being subjected to persistent, day-long harassment calls generated by an AI system used by the lenders. He has since declared his refusal to pay the unauthorized amounts.
