Election Commission Continues Investigation into Senate Selection Irregularities

Following the Election Commission’s (EC) September 14, 2026, announcement regarding the Senate selection process, investigations remain active. EC Chairman Narong Klanwarin reported that a majority vote led to the prosecution of 77 individuals out of 427 total respondents. However, the investigation is far from over.

According to Khaosod Online, the EC’s Subcommittee No. 26 is continuing to examine three further case files. These investigations reportedly focus on allegations of collusion involving various groups, including the Orange faction, the Progressive Movement, iLaw, and independent Senate candidates. The inquiry centers on suspicious activities, including a banquet held at the Jupiter Room in Impact Muang Thong Thani, which investigators are scrutinizing for potential election law violations.

Internal disagreements within the EC have also surfaced. On September 15, EC commissioners Sitthichot Intrawiset and Chai Nakhonchai publicly stated they were in the minority, arguing that there was sufficient evidence to prosecute leaders and executives of the Bhumjaithai Party for their alleged involvement in the selection irregularities.
