According to the research, the construction of the dam threatens to submerge approximately 20,000 rai of forest, which serves as a vital habitat containing 182 species of food plants for local wildlife.
Of particular concern is the potential impact on a herd of 70 wild elephants. The study warns that the loss of their natural habitat could force these animals to migrate into populated areas of Chanthaburi and Sa Kaeo provinces, potentially increasing human-wildlife conflict. Furthermore, the research criticizes the current mitigation measures proposed in the EIA as impractical, arguing that they effectively shift the burden of wildlife management onto national park authorities without providing viable solutions.
