Mediation Stalls in Fatal Chiang Rai Traffic Accident
A doctor involved in a fatal collision with students in Chiang Rai has offered compensation, but families have rejected the initial settlement offer.
According to Khaosod Online, a mediation session held on September 15, 2026, at Ban Du Police Station in Chiang Rai failed to reach an agreement regarding a fatal traffic accident. The incident occurred at the Nang Lae intersection, where a car driven by a doctor, identified as Dr. Kamol, struck a group of Mae Fah Luang University students waiting at a red light. The collision resulted in the deaths of two first-year female students and left one other student seriously injured.
Police confirmed that the driver did not flee the scene and tested negative for alcohol. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage to support charges of reckless driving causing death and serious injury. During the recent mediation, Dr. Kamol offered 250,000 THB in compensation per deceased victim, an amount the victims' families and their legal counsel deemed insufficient given the severity of the loss. While the injured student's family accepted a gesture of apology, the families of the deceased declined to engage with the driver.
