EGAT Partners with U.S. Agency to Explore Small Modular Nuclear Reactors
The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has signed a grant agreement with the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) to conduct a feasibility study on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
According to a report by Matichon Online, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has officially entered into a grant agreement with the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). This partnership is designed to fund and facilitate a comprehensive feasibility study regarding the implementation of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology within Thailand.
For residents and travelers, this development marks a significant step in Thailand’s long-term energy strategy. SMRs are a type of advanced nuclear reactor that are smaller in size and capacity compared to traditional nuclear power plants, often cited for their potential to provide a more flexible and potentially safer energy source. As the country looks to diversify its power grid and meet future energy demands, this study will provide critical data on whether such technology is viable for the Thai landscape.
