Chinese National Wanted by Interpol Arrested in Thailand After 36 Years
Thai authorities have apprehended a Chinese national wanted for a 1990 assault case who had been living in Thailand for over three decades under a Thai identity.
On September 13, 2026, Thai law enforcement officials, led by Deputy Commissioner-General Pol. Gen. Samran Nuanma, arrested a Chinese national identified as Mr. Zhu Zhishan (also known as Mr. Suchart Surachai) at a residence in Bang Lamung, Chonburi. According to Khaosod Online, the arrest followed a request from Chinese authorities via the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding an Interpol Red Notice.
Mr. Zhu is wanted in connection with an intentional assault case that occurred in Taizhou, China, on January 19, 1990. Authorities discovered that the suspect had been residing in Thailand for 36 years and had allegedly obtained Thai citizenship, using a Thai name to secure a national identification card in Tak province. Reports indicate that the individual had established business operations in Thailand valued at over 100 million baht.
For residents and expatriates, this case highlights ongoing efforts by Thai authorities to coordinate with international partners regarding individuals wanted for serious crimes abroad. The investigation into how the suspect obtained Thai citizenship and established significant business interests remains ongoing.
