Samut Sakhon Launches Industrial Inspections to Curb Water Pollution
Thai authorities have initiated a widespread inspection of industrial facilities in Samut Sakhon following public complaints regarding illegal wastewater discharge.
On September 12, 2026, Suchart Chomklin, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, directed the Pollution Control Department (PCD) to collaborate with Samut Sakhon provincial authorities to inspect high-risk factories. According to Khaosod Online, the initiative aims to prevent the illegal dumping of wastewater into public waterways, specifically targeting areas along the Phasi Charoen, Si Wa Phasawat, and Ekachai canals.
This action follows numerous complaints from local residents and reports submitted through members of parliament regarding deteriorating water quality. Dr. Surin Worakitthamrong, Director-General of the PCD, stated that the Samut Sakhon Provincial Industry Office is leading the operation, coordinating with local administrative bodies and environmental agencies to audit wastewater treatment systems, waste management practices, and general facility maintenance. A total of 36 high-risk industrial sites have been identified for immediate inspection.
For residents and visitors, this crackdown is intended to improve local environmental health and ensure industrial compliance with national regulations. While the inspections are currently underway, the long-term impact on water quality and the specific outcomes of the audits for each facility remain to be confirmed. Authorities emphasize that the goal is to ensure businesses operate legally and sustainably within the community.
