Investigation Reveals High-Tech Surveillance at Former Abbot’s Temple
Police investigating a former abbot for embezzlement have uncovered an extensive surveillance network at his temple in Ayutthaya.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on September 11, 2026, police from the Crime Suppression Division have provided new details regarding the case of the former abbot of Wat Phutthaisawan in Ayutthaya, known as 'Sami Choti.' The former monk was previously arrested on charges of embezzling 92 million baht from the temple, alongside a close female associate.
During the investigation, authorities discovered that the former abbot had installed a sophisticated security system consisting of 60 CCTV cameras covering the temple grounds. Investigators noted that he monitored these feeds through three dedicated screens, reportedly to keep a constant watch on individuals entering the temple and his living quarters. Police officials stated that the investigation into the former abbot’s activities began following a single formal complaint.
